A night with Chvrches

It’s not a spelling error, trust me. Thanks to Samantha and her competition winning streak, I was lucky she brought me along to catch Chvrches, an up and coming Scottish electronic band when they were headlining the first Urbanscapes Satellite show on 19 November this year.

Lauren Mayberry, Martin Doherty and Iain Cook released their first studio album, The Bones of What You Believe in September 2013. Ever since then, they have been touring extensively all over the world and Malaysia’s one of their last stops before they take a break to concentrate on their second album.
Plus, the band received nominations in World Music Award for World’s Best Album and in NME Award for Best New Band this year, so they’re one to look out for! Especially if you’re into electronic  and synthpop music.

Lauren sounds just like the songs in the album, no lip-syncing and she reminds me of a pixie or a fairy because she’s so pretty and petite! 🙂

The gig ended pretty early even when they came out for an encore performance! Ended the night with their famous hit ‘ The Mother We Share’!

One of our highlights of the night was Define Tastemaker’s photobooth too! I think every concert should have a photobooth there so that we get to keep a souvenir to remind us of the awesome nights!

If you don’t know where to start, here are some of my favourite tracks from them! Let me know what are your favourites in the comments and recommend me some similar music. I’m a little behind with the music scene these days because I rather listen to old school rock from 90’s and etc.

This is one of the OST for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1! 🙂

First concert of 2013

THE VACCINES, The Bee, Publika. Well, I found out about their concert after seeing their poster during the ice-cream appreciation class ages ago. I went to listen to their music and it’s immediate LOVE! This is the kind of rock music that I wish that the local radio stations would play more often instead of repeating the same pop songs every hour, everyday. So Emily and I managed to get tickets for it at the last minute because it was selling like hot cakes. 🙂

We redeemed our tickets at The Bee and since the doors were not open so we went to get some food. Emily introduced this Chilli Pan Mee shop in Publika’s food court to me and that’s where we had our pre-concert meal. It’s really good Chilli Pan Mee but sadly the portion is smaller than normal and it’s not really worth the price for that portion.

The tickets are actually different than the usual yellow thin paper! It’s good quality paper and at least the words won’t fade so we can keep it longer for memories. 🙂

Emily made me take one ‘Look at my concert ticket!’ shot. I don’t think we were dressed for the occasion. I’ll tell you why as we go on.

We started lining up at 8pm and already the crowd was building up. There was even people asking around if anyone was selling tickets as it was sold out. Emily bought their album while we waited in line. Since it’s an 18 above concert, the ushers checked our ID’s and bags before we could enter. A bunch of people in front of us couldn’t get it even after they got the wristband already cause they were underage. It’s good that they were strict with it.

The moment we walked in, a bunch of girls carrying cigarette boxes suddenly said Hello to us. We don’t smoke so we just went on into the crowd. The bar was open too so many people were getting drinks and chilling as we wait for the Opening Act which was The Rubens. To be honest, I did not check out their music beforehand so I don’t know what to expect but all I know is, they opened for The Black Keys before. So I guess they have to be good right?

They were AWESOME! Like seriously good! They all drank beer instead of water. The vocalist has a really good voice. Emily has fallen in love with keyboardist. I think they sang about 8 songs or more.

They had an accent so we initially thought they were British but after the concert, I went online to listen to their awesome music again and found out they were Australians. Nice. Check out ‘My Gun’ and ‘Never Be The Same’. The vocalist said ” is his personal favourite and he played the keyboard while singing this song. 🙂

After waiting for them to change the instruments and the entire crowd screaming for The Vaccines and they finally came out after 30 minutes! XD
The crowd went ape shit and a bunch of dudes started creating a wall of death out of nowhere and I was wearing my wedges so can you imagine Emily and I being pushed from  left to right and almost falling down numerous of times?
I almost got kicked in the head by some random dude who was so-called crowd surfing. I was hanging on to my handbag too because I’m paranoid and I was so unprepared for this to be a rock concert.
Emily and I were expecting it to be a chillout concert because their songs on Youtube seems to be really chillout but boy, we were so wrong! Lesson learnt.
All in all, they were AWESOME!!! They are the type of band that will engage the crowd and that’s what I love about them! I went apeshit when they sang ‘Post Break-up Sex’, ‘If You Wanna’, ‘Teenage Icon’, and ‘Wetsuit'(The crowd went extra apeshit for this one.).
I think they sang all of the songs from their album and I heard after the concert they even have an autograph session! Too bad I can’t stay long for it. What’s even more weird is that there was the 40+ age group of people at the concert too. We didn’t know that old people listens to their music too.
Our after concert look. We still look good. 🙂

My legs thankfully is still able to help me walk down the escalator which has been switched off. Seriously, at least leave it on until every single human leaves the mall. Emily was sitting at the escalator and called me crazy  for being able to walk down after the damage inflicted from the concert.

We took some mugshots in the washroom.

The side mugshot.

The girl is very proud of her bag which is from H&M which was almost snatched away by a snatch thief.

The Rubens and The Vaccines welcomed our 2013 with a blast and next would be Future Music Festival Asia! I got a good feeling that loads of awesome bands are going to perform in Malaysia which is good for us but bad for our purses.

We are the In Crowd and We The Kings!

I’m finally done with my fourth semester! More time to blog now! Been postponing this post for so long already. So this is another last minute concert that I went with my best friends and we were chilling in Chatime before we head to the concert venue.

Samantha & Emily! 🙂

Really AWESOME POPCORN CHICKEN! I didn’t know Chatime sells fried chicken like the ones you can get from the Shihlin Taiwan Food shop.

I thought we were late and the line would be super long but surprisingly it wasn’t and the venue was not filled up,maybe only half of it was.

Bunkface took the stage to perform first! Still can’t stand the lead singer’s hair.

This is Kyoto Protocol and it was our first time seeing them and listening to their  music and I gotta say, they are pretty good! Their music is quite funky with catchy beats.

This is Oh Chentaku. I don’t really like their music as much as I love rock music, theirs is just not my cup of tea.

After the performances from the local acts, we waited for about an hour for We Are The In Crowd to get ready which is really normal because the sound system in Malaysia sucks literally. Lots of screaming whenever one of the members come out to do some adjusting. I am not familiar with this band but once they start playing,I knew that I was going to like them.PLUS! There are hot guy members in the band! Like Cameron Hurley and Jordan Eckes. 😉

Yes,I took lotsa Jordan’s pictures because I thought he was the hottest and the other girls also thought he was the hottest until I turned my head to Cameron Hurley and he gave his megawatt smile at me, I nearly died of happiness so now I am Team Cameron! It’s sad that the sound system was so bad that I couldn’t hear Taylor’s voice really well over the music but it was a good show by them!

After concert look, all sweaty and pumped up for We The Kings!

Bumped into Abu and his friend too! He’s a self-admitted We The Kings fanboy. Turns out his friend is Samantha’s primary school friend, such a small world. 🙂

Then finally We The Kings came out and Travis was so sweet and friendly! He apologized about how the sound system is not working and he actually sang most of the songs acoustically which was so beautiful. When all of us sang together,it was like we are one with the band. He has a beautiful voice,no need any retouching at all!

Since it ended really late and the place was kinda dark,I couldn’t see my phone but once I got home I saw this!My phone’s case turned pink and I was like HOLY WTH happened then I remembered about the heart shaped red paper cause my hands were stained with it too. -_-lll

Well, adios! I’ll make sure I will blog more. 😉

SUM 41 CONCERT 2012!

I must blog about this before I forget because this concert was one of the best concert experiences that I have ever been to!!! I lost hope when I found out it was too late to get the early birds tickets hence, it was pretty expensive and Emily and I were running out of time to even get the tickets before Saturday which was the 14th of April. Suddenly, I saw that my phone had 3 missed calls from Emily so I immediately called her back cause I assumed she had something urgent to tell me but it turned that her sister managed to get us FREE VIP TICKETS TO SUM 41!!! My heart stopped beating for a few seconds then I started getting excited and start imagining the wonderful things that could happen during the concert. XD

I never ever been to any VIP section in concerts, let alone for free! So I am EXTREMELY GRATEFUL to Emily’s sister and her boyfriend for being so kind to us and giving us their tickets! I nearly cried for joy! Another good thing is that food and beverages were provided for the people who has the VIP tickets! FOOD!!! XD
I was already in KLCC around the afternoon because I went to redeem my prize from Tongue In Chic which was a complimentary makeover from Burberry and a special prize! I think I have fallen in love with their products! The products didn’t trigger any sensitivity issues to my skin which was awesome! The guy who did the makeup for me was really nice and informative and the products he used to put on my face so thank you so much to whoever you are, I wish I have gotten your name.

Can’t really see the make-up here but I can tell you that he gave me a natural smokey eye look using brown tones instead of black because he asked me if I would like a natural look or smokey look. I told him I was going to a rock concert but I want something not too over the top so he managed to achieve that for me. 🙂 Really love the lipstick which was called Tea Rose, a very common name for lipsticks cause NYX has a lipstick with the same name, I wonder if the colors are the same? Maybe I can do a comparison someday.

These are the special prizes. Which are samples from their new summer collection. Me like! XD

He applied this makeup base on my face and I can honestly say this is a really good product because it actually gives you a dewy look and it can also be used for highlighting!

This is the foundation he used on me which matched my skin tone perfectly .

Have not tried out the lip shades yet and the other two are darker toned foundations which they suggested to me to use as a contour.

After getting my makeover, I went to check out the new japanese magazines in Kinokuniya and went to have tea with my family at Starbucks. There was this lady and her daughter in front of me and they were taking their sweet time asking stupid questions about the tumbler when there was already a long queue behind me! Some people are just so inconsiderate. Anyway, after that I went to Pavillion using the newly built bridge which connects from there to KLCC. It was air conditioned and shaded so it was nice but its quite a walk too and a bit confusing cause the signs are not specific enough but I made it there and met Emily there too. Then, we walked to KL Live while using Emily’s recently bought RM10 umbrella cause she said it was too cute to not buy it. LOL

So when we arrived there, there was already a big crowd waiting in line and we couldn’t wait in line because we have to wait for Emily’s sister’s friend to pass us the tickets. Jason, Emily’s sister’s friends came and he was really nice and funny but Emily and I were were beforehand to not stare at him because his girlfriend will kill us but the thing is how can we talk to a person and not look at that person? -_-lll

Well, we actually felt like a VIP because we got the privilege to enter the venue without queuing and since we were early, we picked the best spot which let’s us have the best view of the stage!

The spaghetti was so horrible, it was cold and hard and as much as I hate to waste food, I couldn’t finish this but the other finger foods were nice, like the brownies! Too bad I forgotten to take pictures of those.

Bunkface! The lead singer’s hair is so ugly omg please change your hair style but I have to admit that he looks better now than before! He gained some weight and muscles so VERY NICE!!!

Emily and Sabrina who does not own a Facebook account, haha but she’s so nice  and  she also got free tickets from Jason. Yes, they serve booze during the concert which is kinda unexpected! I thought Malaysia would have banned booze in concerts, haha! It was nice to enjoy some Guinness during the concert.

OBS also known as One Buck Shot, we were trying to guess who OBS is cause  they wrote that in the brochure instead of the full name so we had like a big ‘OH!!!’ moment there.

Waiting for Sum 41.

Still waiting after more than 30 minutes.

AHHHH!!!!SUM 41!!!!!XD

My love for Sum 41 has grew stronger because they are so friendly to their fans and Derek was so funny on stage because he kept doing those funny poses and he even brought a few fans on stage! Someone even threw a mineral bottle on stage and he didn’t even get angry cause he threw one back to them! XD They played so many of their hit songs, omg I swear I was going to lose my voice from screaming along and I was still coughing!

I feel so nostalgic listening to the songs which I used to sing to when I was still a teen!

Sabrina, Emily, Sabrina’s brother behind there with the tongue haha , Jason, me and  Sabrina’s friend.  Emily and I were like “All hail, Jason!” the entire night cause he was so nice to give us the VIP tickets and he even dropped us back.
Sum 41, even if you came out late (Probably cause they had Sambal Petai a day before which means they probably had diarrhea and they visited Batu Caves that morning too.) WE STILL LOVE YOU!!! PLEASE COME BACK TO MALAYSIA!

Big thanks to Jason because if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have made so many new friends and get a really nice view of Sum 41 and experience the VIP side during a concert too!!! 🙂

Evanescence and Farewell moments

On 23rd February was the last day where I got to hang out with some of the Australians before they leave the next day and also it was the same day as Evanescence’s concert! So I took the train and walked to Pavillion to meet up with some of them but most of them left early cause they have to get ready for the farewell dinner on the same night which I did not go cause I have to go for Evanescence! I was pretty sad that I can’t go for both, if only I can split myself into two and what if Evanescence never came back to Malaysia? Our country already has a bad reputation cause the government just had to bring up some religious crap to prevent people from performing music which has NOTHING TO DO WITH RELIGION and to make things worst, Erykah Badu had to cancel her concert last minute cause of that.

Anyway, back to the topic! So I was expecting to just walk around on my own since Michael, Jamie and Kenny wanted to get a massage at the J.W Marriot Hotel nearby so I thought I just drop them off over there then I’ll walk on my own. My plan didn’t happened cause they insisted that I join them for the massage too and I told them that I didn’t have enough money cause it costs about RM175 for a 50 minutes massage but Michael was like I’m gonna pay for you so you have to come for the massage! Which made me feel more guilty cause they’re paying again!>_<

All of us chose to get the Malay massage since we’re in Malaysia! Hahaha! Then, they put our phones and wallets into a safety box that will be kept in the counter because the lockers are not super safe. Then Jamie and I was escorted to the ladies side and the guys to the guys side. The staff brought us to the changing rooms with has rows of toilets, showers, lockers and huge mirrors with toiletries, weighing machine and hair dryers. So it was really nice! Inside our lockers there was a bathrobe which was too big for us, a pair of slippers/ tongs, and a bunch of plastic bags.

So Jamie and I were thinking if we should strip everything off or just leave our undies on cause it was our first time going for a body massage. Plus, we were too shy to ask the staff but I did eventually. So keep undies on! After we changed into the bathrobes, we were sent to the lounge to wait while the masseuse gets ready. Even the lounge is so cozy and they have drinks at the side too! I didn’t bring my camera with me so I didn’t take any pictures. We didn’t get a chance to try the jacuzzi though!

Then, we were brought to the massaging room and both of us were in the same room and it was pretty dark and they asked us to lay flat on our front, and the masseuse asked I wanted light or medium pressure. I went for light cause if I went for medium I think I will be bruised all over. I finally got to try those massaging tables where there’s like a little doughnut thing to put your face on it where you see in movies!XD. So Jamie and I were talking a little bit until she heard the guys’ voices next door. Then, we started laughing and then the guys heard us too. Turns out that the room is only separated using a wooden slide partition thingy.

The massage was really nice but when she started massaging my thighs, I wanted to laugh so badly cause it was so ticklish but I managed to not do it because they will push the pressure up and down. 2 days later after the massage, my body ached.

Once we’re done with the massage, they brought us back to the lounge and they gave us Ginger tea.  I hate ginger but the tea was really refreshing after the massage. After tea, we walked back to the changing rooms and Jamie said she really liked the tongs and she wished she could keep them, so I just randomly said, then hide it in your bag or something. She did and she took my pair too! LOL.

The boys paid for our massages apparently cause Kenny is dating Jamie so he paid for her and I guess Michael was being really nice cause it’s kind of like the last moments we may see each other again so he paid for mine. Add more guilt to me! They took a taxi back and I was alone walking around Pavillion, Lot 10 and Sungei Wang. I had dinner at Lot 10 in the food court and had the famous beef ball noodles cause my friend is working there and he gave me a discount too cause his boss is not there. It was a really good discount until I thought my eyes have gone cuckoo. He was shocked that I was walking around alone, dude can’t a girl walk around alone? Of course it’s pretty dangerous too but my go to way of avoiding attention is to not make eye contact with anyone. After dinner, I went to Sungei Wang to get some souvenirs for the Australians.

Then I had some stupid moments with a bunch of douchebags which I will not state here cause they don’t deserve it, can’t believe I even had the slightest trust on them. So thanks to them, I was rushing to the concert venue cause I was almost late and Emily was waiting for me but I luckily reached KL Live on time. A few minutes later after we got it, they started playing! Amy is so pretty, sweet and her voice is like O_O, MINDBLOWING!!! I didn’t get to do much jumping cause I was carrying the souvenirs that I bought and I was tired from the walking and Emily was tired too so we just did a little head banging and screaming and tip toeing. I really suggest the concert organizers to make people line up according to height so that short people like us can actually get a good view.

I need a better camera especially for concerts.

Me and Emily after the concert!:)

I am glad I did not miss this concert cause Evanescence not only sang their new stuff but a lot of their old songs too! Famous ones like ‘Bring Me To Life’, ‘Call Me When You’re Sober’, ‘Lithium'(I WAS SO HAPPY WHEN SHE SANG THIS!I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG!),’My Immortal’ and a few more! She ended with ‘My Immortal’ and after the song the drummer threw his cymbals or however you call that yellow disc in a drum set to the audience. Emily and I thought if he ever threw that thing our way, the first thing we would do is RUN cause don’t you think that thing can actually hurt someone of you threw it really hard. Anyway, it was a nice day and I really hope Evanescence comes back to Malaysia soon!
